Statements From 2005 Youth Mission Participants

This trip has showed me the importance of being grateful.  I had never and I would never have known the level of poverty in Uganda if not for this trip.  I am grateful to God for this opportunity.  It was an opportunity of a lifetime.

The trip has been absolutely perfect and I can't think of it going in any direction but forward.  The solar work was perfect and the medical team was excellent!  Thank you so much, doctors, for the long hours,  thank you!

Year after year, I am so amazed at the works that this youth mission accomplishes.  This year, as I was working on the installations, I found all of the others working hard and willing to help each other.  It is the work and the idea of this mission, and most importantly, the incredible presence of God in this beautiful country that keeps me coming back every year.

This is truly a life-altering experience.  Going to Africa involves much more than just missionary work.  This trip has given me the chance to make unbelievable friendships that are sure to last and it has also strengthened my Christian faith.  I am so thankful for this opportunity.  It has truly changed my complete outlook on life.

I came on this trip to help the people of Uganda, but instead I am the one who has been helped.  My eyes have been opened to a new world of spirituality and love through singing, dancing, and smiles.  I hae met hundreds of people who have touched my heart, and I will never forget them.

Places can be beautiful; things can be awe-inspiring...but people are more important than both.  Life is all about relationships and I've come to appreciate that in a newer and softer light.  Getting to know the Americans and seeing the transition - from strangers to acquaintances...to friends and to good friends in two weeks.  Wow!  There is little in life that could beat that.  Thank you and God bless.

Dear Friends, today you are leaving, but only physically.  The mission trip has been fascinating ever since I joined.  I was most touched by the services carried to Kyabashenyi Community.  I'll never forget the joy on the faces of those villagers as they mixed up with "smiling mzungus" who had brought light with love, entering their humblest homes and the same faces were in church on Sunday, jumping up for the Lord, and they're the same people that turned up to attend clinic the following day or two, the same people that bid us farewell - and those kids grabbing stuff offered, even the empty water bottles!  They have never had it this good and they'll live to tell the story of your visit, God's visit!  Thank you!  We love you!

This trip was the best thing I have ever done.  The people were awesome.  They were all friendly and nice.  I would do this trip again in a heartbeat.  The African members of the team were also amazing.  They were excellent singers and dancers.  Overall, this was the best thing I've done with my life.

From the word "go", an intended or even unintended journey to inspiration and challenges begins.  It's the joy that we all share as we head out to make a difference in the lives of the true rural Ugandan.  It is an experience I will carry with me for the rest of my life.  Now, I have a story to tell at my university, another side of Uganda to share with the world and I'm glad I do.  The fellowship, both at group and during the installations was great and the new technical experiences take me a step closer to individual development.  Thank you, Bishop Hathaway, Bishop Rukirande, and Mr. Ssemanda.  Thank you, all.
